Description

Elected with the CISUC, plus two centers in the world: the LAAS-CNRS in Toulouse (France) and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champa ign (USA).
The Portuguese group was considered “an example of excellence in the field of technology assessment of reliability of computers.” These technologies assess the degree of confidence can be placed on computers and security that will continue to operate without interruption or wrongs, even if some of their parts is broken.

In the era of global communication, the growing dependence of users of information systems requires continued investigation in order to avoid catastrophic situations, especially on computers that ensure the functioning and security of banks, hospitals and traffic, where a belated response to the computer failure can put lives at risk or produce very serious economic losses.

The evaluation of the research done in Japanese CISUC agency was held in recent meetings in Coimbra with scientists from both structures. Researchers also met with staff of the company Critical Software (Coimbra), who was born in FCTUC and has sold solutions to reliability evaluation of the U.S. space agency (NASA), Europe (ESA), China and Japan itself.

One of the projects along with NASA is “VAL-COTS-RT”, Validation of Real-Time COTS products. This project aims at researching a methodology to assist software engineers in lowering the risk of using COTS components in avionics and space subsystems. The methodology will be used in case-studies defined with the NASA IV&V facility team.
